Deep Purple Wild Blueberry Smoothie
'tis the blueberry season!
Last week, Jeroen went into the woods and came home with a boxful of handpicked wild blueberries.
I fell in love as if for the first time.
Nothing more attractive than a man who just picked berries in the forest for you.
So I threw them lovely little nutrient-bombs in my blender together with another purple, highly nutritious ingredient... Can you guess it?
I made a smoothie with purple cabbage.
Now if you're thinking, 'Cabbage in a smoothie? Not for me, thanks!' You'll probably want to think again.
Cabbage must be one of the healthiest-cheapest vegetables around. It's packed with vitamins B, C & K and it contains a wide variety of minerals like manganese, folate, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, potassium and iron. It's also super-high in anti-inflammatory phytochemicals, making red cabbage an incredibly nourishing vegetable.
And guess what? This smoothie is really delicious and doesn't taste like cabbage at all!
Look at that wonderful deep purple colour...
Drinking this love potion feels like a true blessing.
Deep Purple Wild Blueberry Smoothie (serves 2)
- 2 bananas
- 1 (blood) orange
- 1 handful of purple cabbage
- 2 big handfuls of wild blueberries
- 2 cups of spring water (more or less — until desired consistency)
- 2 heaping tbsp raw hemp protein powder (you can sub w/ hemp seeds or another protein powder)
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 1 tsp maca
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
Throw all ingredients in your blender and blend until smooth. Add more water if necessary.
